Vp Records Presents A Definitive Collection Of Music By King Jammy

This December, VP Records follows up the critically acclaimed release King At The Controls with King Jammy’s Selector’s Choice: Volumes 1-4. This is the complete must-have collection of King Jammy’s most prized tunes. Lloyd ‘King Jammy’ James, the undisputed ruler and originator of the digital reggae movement, produced dancehall’s biggest riddims of the 1980s and is still the man behind today’s biggest hits. His credits of today’s hits come from his extensive resume of classic material from the “Father Jungle Rock” riddim for I-Wayne’s “Can’t Satisfy Her,” to producing Wayne Smith’s “Punany,” to spawn Shabba Ranks’ “Caan Dun.”

As an introduction, King At The Controls (CD/ DVD documentary/ released in July ‘06) gave an important slice of the legendary producer’s indelible stamp on reggae music. “Crammed with sweet melodies, thick bass lines, and intricate beats, these 20 Jammy-produced tracks recorded from 1985-89 will turn technophobes onto the crisp sound of reggae’s digital era,” raved Entertainment Weekly. Now, King Jammy’s Selector’s Choice Volumes 1-4 will continue to build on his legacy, offering a comprehensive assortment of these crucial hits as well as rare hard-to-find cuts.

The eight-disc collection (sold separately on four double-discs), compiled by the King and executive producer Johnny Wonder, is organized by riddim. The album offers the solid sense of Jammy’s innovative sound of the era and showcases the young, unique talents Jammy nurtured. Jam-packed with 160 songs, Selector’s Choice features artists, such as, Shabba Ranks, Gregory Isaacs, Johnny Osborne, Chaka Demus, Ninja Man, Admiral Bailey, Josey Wales and many more. Go inside the making of this remastered and repackaged release with exclusive vintage photos and all liner notes written by reggae historian Rob Kenner. This diary of the innovative team of Jammy and J.Wonder will give music connoisseurs, deejays, and new fans alike the full experience of the definitive dancehall era in pure original sound.
