Mikey General Releases “Medhane Alem” — Roots Reggae’s Most Spiritual Album of 2026

May 5, 2026

Veteran roots reggae artist Mikey General has released his latest studio album Medhane Alem worldwide on May 5, 2026, through Zojak World Wide. The album — whose title translates from Amharic as “Saviour of the World” — represents Mikey General’s most spiritually ambitious project to date, drawing deep from the wells of Rastafari consciousness, African history, and roots reggae tradition.

Born Michael Johnson in Clarendon, Jamaica, Mikey General has spent over three decades as one of the most consistent and spiritually grounded voices in conscious roots reggae. His long-standing connection to Ethiopia and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church has been a central theme of his work, and Medhane Alem represents the fullest expression of that spiritual journey yet recorded.

The album has received enthusiastic reviews from the international reggae community, with Reggaeville calling it “a masterwork of devotional music” and praising Mikey General’s “unwavering commitment to conscious lyricism in an era that often rewards the superficial.”
