On the eve of Innervisions Reggae Band ‘s soon to be released Video titled “Everlasting Love.” I find myself contemplating the words of their song with the same title and trying to visualize what the Video scenes will actually entail Bringing to mind the song by
George Nooks “Righteous Youths” this song is centered around the Righteous Youths and the Critical times in which we live. To paraphrase
this song, it goes like this: “The time is getting critical, I don’t want you to worry, I don’t want you to fret; There is a whole barrage
of youthmen in town, we ain’t going down, we ain’t giving up no way. When I tell you that the time is getting Critical, I just want
to put my people on a lert. There is so much going on in the world that makes times so difficult. Babylon is trying to run things to a wreck; but if you think HisMajesty is sleeping than you better think twice, he will never allow the devilment to mash up Zion’s eye. There’s a whole barrage of Youthmen in town, nothing’s going to stop them NO WAY!” These words sung so boldly and so true by George Nooks about the Righteous Youthmen quest for righteousness in the midst of serious times, could have well been describing:
Innervisions Reggae Band who’s resolve is that all mankind should – Love one another-NOW! – with the presention of their Video
“Everlasting Love”
With only 5 CD releases to their credit, Innervisions still believe in Quality not Quantity, this steadfastness is apparent with their music being era lasting.
After over 17 years performing Islandwide and stateside opening for numerous other Reggae Artists, they decided In 1995 it was time to branch out and
invite the world to ride on their own unique reggae musical waves. In this year they went into the studio and released their first CD titled “Love One Another” to rave reviews. This first outing found them with a #1 record in “Shala la” on the Reggae radio charts Islandwide and the beginning of worldwide recognition with journalists and DJ’s alike asking “who are these guys?” and “where have they been?” St. John’s USVI secret was no more, Innervisions received recognition at last as being one of the most brilliant reggae bands around. It has been 12 years now since the release of “Love One Another” which remains on Reggae charts worldwide, with the success of their first release. Innervisions was once again energized in 2002 and has released 4 subsequent releases: Shala la Tonight (single),Spiritual Dancer,Street Corner Musician and Frontline.
Their strength comes in the way of – strong convictions, wicked harmonic vocals, and staying to the Roots of Reggae. Adding to this strength is family unity, with the addtion a couple years ago of Grasshopper’s two son’s Akiba and Aswad these two Pickerings added more fuel to the fire, making Innervisions one of the most wicked Reggae Bands coming out of the U.S. Virgin Islands. After over 25 years they are still going strong. Peace, Love and Harmony derived from he who created us – JAH. If you think that Innervisions have been sleeping, then darlings you better think twice. Innervisions recognize that we are living in critical times and they remain steadfast in their convictions that now, not later is the time for true righteousness to be professed through Reggae music.
Afterall, there is still a message in the music: Love, Peace and Harmony. To express their feelings visually for their fan’s worldwide,
for the past 8 months Innervisions has been in the Islands working deligently on their “Everlasting Love” video.
This venture will surely be a powerful production from the Caribbean Island’s Reggae Warrior Kings, as it is Zion they are thinking of. They are determined to stand firm to their convictions to the Roots of Reggae, no matter how rocky the road becomes, that is why they are not Giving up NO WAY!!!
For those who have not YET been introduced to the Caribbean Island’s Reggae Vision – The Innervisions Reggae Band – allow
me the honors of introductions:
The lead vocals are shared with: Ras Paul and Grasshopper with Ras Jupiter on Backing Vocals.
Their winning recipe is a blending of two Islands of the Caribbean: Jamaica in the West Indies and St John in the US Virgin Islands – a Culminating in a Rich Blend of Roots Rocking Reggae sounds – earning them the title “Caribbean’s Reggae Masters”.
Philip “Grasshopper” Pickering with his Angelic Sweet Lead Vocals and spine-tingling Rhythm Guitar.
Paul “Ras Paul” Samms with his unique “Authoritative listen to what I say” Lead Vocals,” and master Percussionist.
Alvin “Ras Jupiter” Pickering decorates the two lead vocals with backing vocals and a drop dead, heart pumping Bass.
Referring to this trio as Harmonic geniuses would be an understatment. Also lending to the special blend of Innervisions is:
Akiba “Mr. Snooze” Pickering on Keyboards, who not only masters the instrument taught to him by his father – Grasshopper. Akiba is without a shadow of doubt, the hype guy,a natural born crowd pleaser. He not only plays the Keyboards, he Chants, a true singjay with a smile that will light up darkness.
Aswad “Hollywood” Pickering on Drums is solid as a Rock! Aswad is the youngest member of Innervisions and also taught by his
father, Grasshopper. Aswad plays the drums in such a way that many Reggae artist on the U.S. Reggae Tour Circuit, has a problem believing that he only started playing Drums, a couple years a go. He plays the drums as if they are a part of his soul, each stroke meticulously executed, pure perfection!!! His wicked playing has earned him respect within the community of Reggae Drummers. That’s some fete for a youthman with less than 25 years on this earth and only 3 years in Reggae entertainment!
