It is with some regret and a lot of hope that I announce the closing of Funky Riddms Records. It’s been 5 1/2 long years and it’s time to let the retail shop go. Thank You to all the folks who supported over the years. But now it’s time to move forward and holding down a shop 6-7 days a week is doing just that, holding me down. I would never make a good drug dealer cause if records were crack (I think records are more addictive) I’ve been getting high on my own supply. Music retail is a hard hustle as any record store owner will tell you and I only foresee it getting harder. As djs go digital and vinyl heads dig on line more and more the days of record stores (and many other types of retail stores) seem numbered. Please support Groove Merchant and Wisdom records in SF and B-Sides in Berkeley. We are all part of a great tradition that I don’t want to see die in the Bay and in the world. Keep Vinyl Alive!
The Berkeley flea market on Ashby & MLK (one of the last places to find original Berkeley culture) has been good to me. I’m going to continue to give Funky Riddms to the people every weekend. Big Up to A Little Taste Of Africa for providing a space and nutrition to get me through. I’ll also be vending at Reggae festivals this coming year alongside Estilo Clothing, Big Up Jerry Limon. I’m still DJing @ Oasis every Wednesday (Lion Rock) and various nights around the Bay and now that my times freed up down in LA.
