Hutchy who brought you the critically acclaimed 2007 reggae CD My Time on RUFFCUTRECORDS, will be releasing the video for his new single "Gas Prices".
"It was not my plan to write a song about Gas Prices I was in the studio working on my Electronica CD when the idea comes to me. At first I came up with the music then I think about the lyric. I said to myself we’re living in a hopeless and scary world where people are affected by basic needs so I got to make this song about something that is relevant to all our life releasing"
Hutchy who has been compared to King Tubby and Scientists prides himself on creating profanity free music mixing and incorporating the old sounds of reggae and dub with more modern musical styles and techniques creating his own sound that has been missing in reggae for over 20 years. He is currently working on a more mainstream Electronica release for early 2009.
Filmed in Washington D.C. in the shadow of the Capital Building the video was written by Hutchy and directed by Robin Bell (Thievery Corporation’s video editor). It’s based around Hutchy and his girlfriend getting into a heated argument about making a choice between going out for dinner or filling up his gas guzzling Hummer SUV. His girlfriend is then swooned away by a hilarious 70’s style outfitted man riding a PINK bicycle.
The video also features legendary Rastafarian Lathan Dennis (Jacko) who wrote several songs for Black Uhuru and collaborated with Bob Marley. He was also a pioneer in the development of Ethanol powered vehicles in the 1970s making his appearance relevant to the song’s subject.
