Yogie

While Yogie seems to be pretty popular in Jamaica and other parts, he will make his first New England appearance at the 6th Annual New England Music Splash 2000. He is currency in the New York area and certainly the tri-state area well get a taste of him. Courtney John Morrison, a.k.a Yogie, was born in St. Andrew, Jamaica. He spent his childhood years in Annotto Bay, a scenic fishing village along St. Mary's coast. Born into a musical family, Yogie grew up listening to the melodious tunes of his world famous urges Winston Hammond and Beres Hammond. Yogie's musical inspiration comes from Winston and Beras. However, his singing influences vary from Bob Marley to Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder to Alton Ellis. Yogie is an accomplished producer and songwriter. His production work includes work for Sizzla, Anthony B, Determine, Mr. Easy, Len Hammond and Beenie Man. Yogie is also a talented lyricist who has written for Beres Hammond (including his big hit "Can't Stop a Man "), Culture and Marcia Griffiths.His impressive work as a producer and songwriter is no surprise. He wrote and produced his first song at the age of twelve. In 1993, Yogie released his premiere single "For Granted", produced by widely respected producer Clive Hunt.

His most popular releases since then include 'Never Give Up"(1995),'Brighter days" (1996),"that Was Then"(*1998), and "I Go crazy"(1999).* Yogie has worked for a number of labels and production companies including Fat Eyes,slam, Cylton, and 321 Strong productions, He has recorded tracks for Penthouse, Star Trail and Harmony House. Yogie is currently riding, high on the success of his newest single "That Was Then" featuring Anthony B and "I Go Crazy". Strong airplay has come from domestic and international radio stations, with the single charting high on DJ and radio playlists. Yogie is presently writing and recording new material We can expect to hear much more of this young balladeer's silky smooth vocal styling when his debut album is released this spring. His talent as a lyricist and producer is plain for all to see: "that was then this is now I'm older and smarter, that was then this is now sweeter and cleaner that was than, this is now hallelujah hallelujah I'm glad I turned my life around" - From "That Was Then" (1998)* This week the focus is on Yogie, last week informed you that the Ras Professor will also be making an appearance at splash 2000, which is Scheduled for Saturday May 27, 2000, at the Spruce Park in Hartford Connecticut.
