Rising Sun began as an idea created by 3 dreamers, Michael Nicholle, Tim Dollimount and Lloyd Hynes from Cow Head, a small outpost in Newfoundland. Back home the group was known as “ Reckless”, and grew to be creative and productive assets, talented musicians and key personalities to their hometown.

Reckless played throughout Newfoundland, with positive responses from their audiences, and when they felt that they had covered enough of the “Rock”, they knew it was time to take their music to Toronto. At which time they moved to Ontario, and joined Michael's older brother, Shane, who became the 4th member of the band.

The band was in desperate need of a drummer so they met Simon Vanderzam, who operated a small studio, and was also a drummer. He assisted them in recording a CD. The group then changed their name from “Reckless” to “Rising Sun”; this changed reflected their growth and vision of themselves as artists.

Rising Sun has recently been adopted by the Explorer Family, and has fit in nicely and comfortably as the rocking part of the team. Simon Vanderzam recently left the group, and has been replaced by Greg Lyons. Tim had also decided to change his career and with sadness left the group. Michael was talking with his old school band mate, Mark Pittman and asked if he still played bass? Mark said yes and completed this 5 member dream group.

Rising Sun has been performing at several local and out of town clubs, bars, pubs, colleges and universities since the release of their debut CD, “Dying Of A Memory” in May 2002. Their first single, “Cos Yesterday Felt Like Forever” is on heavy rotation at some college and university stations across Canada.

These young men have been compared to Oasis, U2 and even the great John Lennon. Their songs are strong, positive and inspiring, and their stage performance is overwhelming.

Their future is very bright, as their music is genuinely Canadian, youthful and extremely enjoyable, slightly reminiscent of the early Beatles, and strongly influenced by Oasis, and Train, and we at Explorer feel that they have only just begun, and will be around for some time.
