<p>King David is a very exciting young Rasta DJ from Jamaica. He was born and grew up in the Vineyard Town area of Kingston and first began DJing at the age of 14, appearing at local talent contests. He also performed on local sound systems like Love Zone and Stereo Mix. </p>
<p>He recorded his first tune in 1996 called "<em>Man a Lion</em>" for the Ocho Rios label Kariang Records, a tune that rode a cut of <a href="http://www.bigupradio.com/artistDetail.jsp?aid=26">Bob Marley</a>'s Natty Dread rhythm. He followed this with tunes like "<em>Babylon Explode</em>" for <a href="http://www.bigupradio.com/artistDetail.jsp?aid=148">Junior Reid</a>'s JR label, "<em>Rolling in my Jeep</em>" for <a href="http://www.bigupradio.com/artistDetail.jsp?aid=24">Sugar Minott</a>'s <a href="http://www.bigupradio.com/labelDetail.jsp?lid=579">Black Roots</a> label, and "<em>She Loves Me So</em>" on <a href="http://www.bigupradio.com/labelDetail.jsp?lid=252">Shocking Vibes</a>. </p>
<p>The last couple of years has seen his profile rise a great deal as he has released some powerful roots anthems such as "<em>Riding High</em>" and "<em>Fire</em>" (both produced by Robert French); "<em>Stay Focused</em>" and "<em>Rastaman Rise</em>" (both Triple R); and "<em>Pop Off Dem Stripey</em>" (Stampede). </p>
<p>King David has a DJ style similar to Sizzla, who he cites as a big influence, as well as artists like <a href="artistDetail.jsp?aid=310">Capleton</a>, <a href="http://www.bigupradio.com/artistDetail.jsp?aid=1329">Jah Mason</a>, <a href="http://www.bigupradio.com/artistDetail.jsp?aid=500">Determine</a>, <a href="http://www.bigupradio.com/artistDetail.jsp?aid=52">Daweh Congo</a>, and older figureheads like <a href="http://www.bigupradio.com/artistDetail.jsp?aid=26">Bob Marley</a>, <a href="http://www.bigupradio.com/artistDetail.jsp?aid=1853">Peter Tosh</a> and <a href="http://www.bigupradio.com/artistDetail.jsp?aid=758">Burning Spear</a>.
<p>In August 2001, King David linked up with <a href="http://www.bigupradio.com/artistDetail.jsp?aid=236">Rootsman</a> at the <a href="http://www.bigupradio.com/labelDetail.jsp?lid=56">Third Eye Studio</a> to record a killer new-roots anthem called "Rise Up". This was released on a 10" on Third Eye Music. He soon returned in December 2001 to voice a second anthem for Rootsman entitled "<em>21st Century</em>". This is now also released on a Third Eye Music 10" with matching cuts from Dayjah and Bongo Chilli. </p>
