Grounation hail from Frankfurt, Germany and have a floating line-up, mainly consisting of Marcus Darius, DJ Reverend and Gabriel Le Mar. They are part of a number of dub-influenced artists collectively recognised under the banner Serious Droupout.

In 1996 they contacted Rootsman to provide a remix for the track "King Of Dub" which was the lead track for the second Serious Dropout compilation album. Rootsman and Dreadzone both remixed the track and it was an underground dancefloor hit in Germany. Its accompanying video was shot at the Notting Hill Carnival and showed on MTV. Third Eye Music then released "King Of Dub" as a 12" in the Uk with an additional Rootsman dub remix.

Both Rootsman and Dayjah spent a number of days in Frankfurt in 1997 and collaborated with Grounation on the track "Field Of Dreams", where the music was built by Rootsman and Grounation, and the vocals shared between Dayjah and Tolga. This track was released on an album called "Dub Backups 2" on Elektrolux Records.

Since then the three members have generally concentrated on their own solo projects. Marcus continues to produce at his Babylon Central Studio in the centre of Frankfurt. DJ Reverend works regularly with Berlin's Jammin' Unit and well as DJing at home and abroad. Gabriel Le Mar has released two crucial solo albums on the Spirit Zone label and has continued to work extensively with Rootsman. They have exchanged remixes and also recorded a whole album together which is yet to be released.
