Fowlie Dan

Fowlie Don was born in Jones Town, Kingston, Jamaica in 1972 and grew up in the infamous Waterhouse area. As a young up-and-coming DJ he featured on small sound systems in the area such as Bushna Force, Excalibur and Explicit.

Like many other Waterhouse youths, he turned up at the legendary King Jammys Recording Studio where he cut his debut record "Ooh Ooh Ooh", a cut of the Punaany rhythm, which was released in 1991.

In 1993 Fowlie left Kingston to settle in the north coastal town of Ocho Rios, away from the tension and stress of nineties Kingston. He spent his time at the now-defunct Roof Recording and Dub-Cutting Studio owned by Courtney Cole, voicing dub plate specials for many sound systems at home and abroad. Fowlie had recorded specials for the likes of Killamanjaro, Stone Love, Metromedia, Bass Odyssey, Black Kat as well as foreign sounds like Poison Dart, Waggy T, LP, Luv Injection and Qualitex.

Fowlie Don's second record "Me Have Girl Here, Me Have Girl There" was released on the Roof label and Fowlie worked extensively with other Ochi based artists like Garnett Silk, Mikey Simpson, U-Brown, Little Hero, Future Troubles, Ginnie Pepper, Shaggy Wonder, Bananaman, Fireball, Niggah Mikey and Frisco Banton.

Other releases by Fowlie have included " Old Gallis", "Girl Dem Want The Man With The Power", "A No Cartoon", "The Bible and The Rod", "From You A Ras", "What You Eat and What You Drink" and "Enjoyment". Fowlie' latest release is "Selassie I" on Niggah Mikey's Tubbis label, alongside Bananaman and Action Fire. He has also been recording for Bulby's leading Jamaican label Fat Eyes.

UK producer The Rootsman hooked up with Fowlie Don during his 1999 trip to Jamaica, and they recorded some specials together atUB40's studio at Oracabessa. These have received an excellent response at Rootsman's European dancehall shows and this has now led to Fowlie visiting the UK where he has recorded a number of tracks for Third Eye Music. One of these tracks "Earth Rightful Ruler" is contained on Rootsman's "New Testament" album.
