Owen Moncrieffe aka Fantan Mojah was born in the fruitful parish of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. Since he was nine years old and while attending school Fantan engaged in music and was often featured on most concerts and won several talent search competitions. The love that Fantan had for music later flourished as he came to Kingston in search of better opportunities. Mojah started out as a handyman for the sound system Killomanjaro, so that he could gain more experience by singing on rhythms during sound checks. Being a big fan of dancehall deejay Bounty Killer, Fantan first called himself ‘Mad Killer’. In 1997 while making more positive strides Fantan looked towards Rastafarianism and he began spending time around cultural deejay ‘Capleton’, who motivated him to carry a more spiritual name. Fantan Mojah as defined represents his spiritual sound and Rastafarian beliefs, through music. Fantan has performed on most local major stage shows such as: DanceAll Rock, Spring Break, Sting, Fully Loaded, Summer Jam, and West Kingston Jamboree. Now in 2004 currently released singles are ‘Search’, ‘Feel Di Pain’ and most recently ‘Hail The King’ on the Maroon rhythm and ‘Hungry’ on the Invasion rhythm both recorded for DownSound Records, representing righteousness all the way. To further establish his career he is now under the management of DownSound Records, a production Company based in Kingston, Jamaica, which has been very influential in the development of artistes such as Xsytment and Harry Toddler. Future plans for Fantan Mojah looks promising as DownSound Records gets ready for the production of a music video for the single ‘Hail The King ’, which is a dedication to the Rastafarian spiritial leader Selassie. The video will be filmed on location in Jamaica and will definitely enhance the theme of the song. Mojah is also booked for “Sting†in December and a heep of shows in 2005. Recording new material is also a priority for Mojah as he trods along the righteous path of good and uplifting music.
