Original veteran raggamuffin DJ Daddy Freddy was born in Trenchtown, Kingston, Jamaica in 1965 - the place where so many of Jamaica's musical heroes grew up (in fact his neighbour was Jacob Miller).

His first recording "Zoo Party", on a demented cut of the Sleng Teng rhythm, was released on Clement "Coxsone" Dodd's legendary Studio One label in 1985. Daddy Freddy cut his teeth on his uncle's Wild Bunch sound system before progressing to Lt. Stitchie's Stereo One set.

Freddy toured the USA with Steel Pulse, Burning Spear, Shinehead, X-Clan, Heavy D and Shelly Thunder and also performed throughout Europe, mashing up dances and bringing his original raggamuffin style to many places where people only knew dancehall through listening to records.

Freddy also became a regular fixture on the Sir Coxsone Outernational sound system in London alongside Tenor Fly, Blacker Dread, Screechie Dan and Bikey Dread. In 1988, Daddy Freddy created a bit of history when he was proclaimed "The World's Fastest Rapper" (reaching an incredible 508 syllables a minute!) and entered the Guinness Book Of Records. He was to hold this record 4 times.

He also featured extensively on US televison, appearing on Soul Train, Arsenio Hall's show and Yo MTV Raps. After these hectic few years, Freddy decided to take a break for a while. Although he had stopped recording, his voice was still heard through being sampled by Prodigy, Salt'n'Pepa, 187 Lockdown, Marvellous Cain and KRS One's Boogie Down Productions.

Daddy Freddy found himself back in the UK at the end of the 90s and hooked up with new school dub producer The Rootsman to record a brand new album entitled "Old School New School".

Since then, Daddy Freddy has recorded some new tracks produced by Rootsman, and he features on Rootsman's "New Testament" album with his track "Live Forever".
