Buju Banton — born Mark Anthony Myrie on July 15, 1973 in Kingston, Jamaica — is one of the most beloved figures in Jamaican music history. His baritone voice, conscious lyrics, and deep spiritual conviction made him a champion of Rastafari culture. After incarceration from 2011 to 2018, his return was celebrated as one of reggae's great comeback stories. His 2020 concert I Wanna Be Close To You drew over 15,000 people to Kingston. His classic albums include Til Shiloh, Inna Heights, and Friends for Life. His Grammy-award winning collaboration "The Kalling" with Kabaka Pyramid proved his continued relevance and power in the modern reggae landscape.
