The Georgetown Orbits

When David O’bright (drums) and Tobias Kremple (bass) met in mid-2004: they set out to form a traditional ska band: in a music scene formerly lacking presence in the greater Seattle area. Both felt the genre had a vast and untapped audience: yet lacked the proper voice- namely: a group of musicians with the skill and versatility to take inspiration from the great Jamaican styles- Ska: Rocksteady: and Reggae- and make a sound all their own. Today: the Georgetown Orbits are the realization of this goal. A tight: heavy rhythm section: dynamic horn lines: improvised solos: and classic vocals from Mike Rempe (formerly of the Pulverts): are definitive marks in their current setlist. They have found popularity among younger audiences as well as old: performing next to bands: solo musicians: and deejays. The music has appealed to fans throughout Seattle’s reggae: jazz: skapunk: soul: and calypso scenes: and continues at each performance to captivate a dancing audience. In their relatively short career: the Georgetown Orbits have already played with such prominent names as Westbound Train (Boston): the Upride Dub Orchestra (Portland): Mike Park (owner: Asian Man Records): Warsaw Poland Brothers: Nuffsed: the Soul Pistols: Natalie Wouldn’t: and many other local and touring bands. To date: they have played in numerous venues around Seattle: including Studio Seven: the Central Saloon: El Corazon: the Vera Project: the Redmond Firehouse: the Brickhouse: and the Funhouse. In May of 2004: a self-released live cd was recorded and distributed at shows. Within the coming year: the band has made serious plans to enter the recording studio: release an album: and head out on a tour of the West Coast.
