LITTLE DEVON started singing when he was about 12 years old. He wrote and recorded his first single entitled "Think Quick" at the age of 15. Prior to that, the Jamaican born native had been using his natural talent singing while attending school at the St. Patrick All Age School, where he would be called upon to sing during morning devotions. LITTLE DEVON enjoyed singing so much that he knew from an early age that music would be at the forefront of his career goals. "I once thought that I would become a Jockey, but music and performing influenced me so much. I felt good to be performing in front of my classmates and teachers and from there I knew that performing was what I wanted to do".

After leaving school in 1981, he worked at various companies and during his free time he would hang around recording studios such as Black Scorpio, Penthouse, Anchor and Dynamic Sounds doing dubplates for various sound systems. In fact his first single was recorded at Dynamic Sounds. He went on to do other recordings at Black Scorpio which were included in compilation albums. Two of the singles "Jah Jah Blessings" and "Living Is Hard" received fair airplay in Jamaica and overseas. LITTLE DEVON moved on to Star Trail in 1988, where he did more recordings such as "Fiction" on the Mama Africa rhythm, "Some Man Are Good" on the Please Be True rhythm and "Poor Man Rise" on the Baltimore rhythm.
