Lecturer was born Manley Edwards in the tough Waterhouse ghetto of Kingston, Jamaica. Having grown up in this area, it was inevitable that with his DJ talents that he would end up joining the legendary King Jammys Super Power sound system that ruled Jamaica and the whole dancehall world from the mid to the late 1980s.

As part of this sound system he worked alongside other luminaries like Admiral Bailey, Echo Minott, Colin Roach, Anthony Malvo, Risto Benjy, Chaka Demus, Major Worries, Pinchers, and many many more. He toured extensively throughout the USA and England and became a big dancehall star.

Lecturer is unique in the fact that when he first broke big at the end of the 80s, he refused to record for any other than Jammys. His first big hit was the slack "Punany Too Sweet" and he followed that up with "DJ a Find Mi", "Every DJ Want To Bust" (with Little Twitch) and more.

After a spell living in New York where he regularly worked on all the big sounds there, he relocated to England in the 90s, and where he is currently based. Eventually he hooked up with Rootsman and recorded a song "How Dem Fi Do It" over Rootsman's Pokemon riddim, which is yet-to-be released.

He has voiced specials for many sounds in Europe, and also appeared at live shows, notably on Ward 21 and Elephant Man's successful Year 2000 UK tour. In August 2002 Lecturer returned to the Third Eye Studio to voice a tuff new track entitled "None A Dem". Look out for this in 2003.
