Freshly returned from several years in St. Croix, SHAKA BLACK's reunion with long-time stage-partners DUB STATION delivers a vital, new installment of some incredibly memorable stage shows. The link between "Shaka" - his namesame (the African warrior Shaka Zulu) -and "Black," the deep richness of his skin color, comes alive onstage with a level of soul and vibrancy that is rare to witness in this time of "bling bling" dancehall fluff.

Like a lion released, Shaka works the stage and transforms, even within songs, from heartfelt crooning (on songs like "Teardrops") to lofty Rasta chants (like "Glory Jah Jah") and even dancehall-style, rapid-fire lyrics machinery ("Ma-ma-ma Africa").

Captured first on record in Jamaica, 1992 ("Priceless"); Shaka has since recorded a number of songs, including on Dub Station's debut CD of 1997 [link to buy section for DS1] (with songs like "Early Warning" and more); and on the Shaka spotlight CD: "Never Get Away" in 2001. Currently, Shaka Black is working with Dub Station, voicing over popular dancehall beats and creating a collection of his best, and most recent live performances. Tours and extensive radio outreach are planned, including down the East Coast to South Carolina; a jaunt to Jamaica; and a passage across the U.S. to bring the West Coast up to speed on his extraordinary performance skills. Since he snuck out of the house as a youth (in the islands) to listen, spin, and toast at the area dances, Shaka Black has been single-mindedly dedicated to his music; be it around sound systems, stage shows, or studios. Selected by the Boston Caribbean Music Awards as one of the region's Best Male Vocalists, Shaka certainly can share credit with Dub Station for the many Best-Band awards that group has won as well. Shaka Black has performed prominently at Festivals (Vermont Reggae & New England Festivals); colleges & private events; as well major venues, including SOB's & Irving Plaza (opening for Burning Spear) in New York City and Boston's longest-running and best live showcase: Reggae Sundays at Bill's Bar. Other opening / stage-sharing stints include work with The Wailers; Buju Banton; Frankie Paul, Supercat and Dennis Brown (back in the day); and Luciano, Beres Hammond, and Elephant Man (sparking the charts today). Shaka Black expects no less than to demonstrate to audiences & talent buyers alike that he has the mettle to headline any show and stir the crowd with his authentic, spiritual energy. Request his songs; check his lyrics; talk to him - Shaka Black is a true force of positivity in the musical scene of today - this website will be expanding its coverage and exposure for Shaka Black as part of the KRucial Reggae family of artists.
