US BASED SINGER/SONGWRITER/PRODUCER/ENGINEER, HENRY SADIKI BUCKLEY, JR. HAS GAINED THE EXCLUSIVE RIGHT, THROUGH THE USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) TO USE THE NAME SADIKI IN COMMERCE.
It became necessary for Sadiki to trademark the name after other performers started using the name, thereby creating confusion. Sadiki had this to say, At this time I am speaking with an attorney to see which is the best way to proceed. I believe that since the name is trademarked/service marked for a specific class of service/services, under sections of the Lanham Act, not only am I able to go after the persons using the name, but the law also allows judgments against third parties such as record labels, online stores such as iTunes, online music video providers like YouTube, television stations showing music videos under the name Sadiki or featuring Sadiki, while showing a different artist, and also concert promoters. Im not looking for lawsuits still, my main focus is to stop the confusion for the public and stop the exploitation of my brand. But if it comes down to suing then thats what I have to do.
The multi-talented artist, who recently released his debut album Mornings Come (US Version) on his own record label Skinny Bwoy Records, says he hopes that more artists will take the initiative to trademark their names. I also hope that more artists will stop waiting on so-called record labels to release their music and start doing it independently, everything is available right now for independent artist, from Myspace to Amazon.com you can get done!
