Wednesday marked the 67th earthstrong of legendary reggae singer Peter Tosh and we should all remember this great freedom fighter. Peter was a great protagonist of his beliefs and what he stood for and what he thought was right for black people. He fought against apartheid, injustice, the shitstem and suffered the consequences when he was brutalised and badly beaten by – according to his recollection – ten policemen at the Half Way Tree Police Station. He received forty six stitches in his head. His hands were broken as he used them to fend off some of the heavy blows during the beating which went on for about an hour. His head and hands were busted up so badly that he had to play dead by lying motionless on the ground of the Police Station which enabled him to survive the attack.
Let us all remember this great man in whatever way we choose to remember him, for his greatness and for being such a PROTAGONIST leader. All this was spelled out onWednesday, October 19Â at UWI, at the Peter Tosh Symposium – remembering Peter Tosh, the man, his music and what it meant to the free world.
Invited speakers included Dr. Omar Davis (opposition Finance Minister) and Dr Michael Barnett. Also to release information about plans for the “WE REMEMBER PETER” 25th anniversary celebrations next year 2012. Highlight of the celebration will be the “WE REMEMBER PETER TOSH WORLD TOUR” which will consist of all the musicians who were members of Peter’s backing band “WORD SOUND AND POWER.” Confirmed musicians will include Sly and Robbie (Drum & Bass), Mikey Chung, Donald Kingsley, Steve Golding & Daryl Thompson (guitars), Robbie Lyn, Keith Sterling, Touter Harvey (keyboards), Santa Davis & Fully Fullwood (drum & bass),The Tamlins (back-up vocals) and on lead vocals will be Peter’s two sons Andrew Tosh and Tosh1 (the youngest).

You must play and listen to this video as Peter describes two events of his career which will be in the book Reggae My Life Is which will finally be released next year (2012). The video events are “The First meeting of Peter Tosh and Bob Marley on stage in California 1978 and the prediction they made about the POPE which manifested three days later and the 1973 Wailers tour with Sly & The Family Stone, where the WAILERS were left stranded in Las Vegas after four shows. I was the road manager on that tour. This very interesting story will be detailed in my book Reggae My Life Is.
