Tuff Gong

Tuff Gong was founded in 1970 by Bob Marley and The Wailers as a vehicle for creative and financial independence. Named after Marley's nickname — honoring the notorious Jamaican rude boy who never backed down — Tuff Gong represented a revolutionary act of Black ownership and artistic self-determination in the Jamaican music industry. The Kingston studio at 220 Marcus Garvey Drive remains a cultural landmark, and the label continues to operate under Marley family stewardship, releasing both archival material and new music while honoring the founder's incomparable legacy.
