Selena Serrano

Born in the Bronx, New York as an only child to Puerto Rican parents, Selena Serrano can be considered what most people would call a "Nuyorican". Her family would initially recognize her tremendous talent at her uncle's house parties where, at 5 years old she would "bring the house down" with a larger than life rendition of Whitney Houston's "The Greatest Love of All". There after, she would be known as the little girl with a big voice. Anyone who heard her sing would ask "how can such a big voice come out of such a small person?" "My idols were Whitney and Lisa Lisa when I was little, so I suppose I would mimic them as best as I could", she recalls. Moving to Colorado at the age of 8 shaped Selena in a way that would open her mind to a whole new world of cultures and music. As you can imagine, growing up as a Puerto Rican girl in the middle of Denver took quite a bit of adjustment. As a result though, her musical influences and experiences were given an opportunity to flourish in a way that would create her soulful, yet jazz infused style. "Being an only child, I would sit for hours alone in my room listening to the likes of Faith Evans, Ella Fitzgerald, Amel Larrieux, Tamia and Mary J. Blige".

Singing in many girl groups along the way, Selena developed a love for songwriting. In order to hone her talent she attended the Denver School of Arts and after graduating high school she made her dream of moving to Miami a reality. "In the midst of the September 11th tragedy I decided I would rather die trying to use the talent God gave me, than live with regrets, so I happily packed up and left my old life behind. I think Miami is the perfect combination of island culture and climate along with the nightlife of New York. You can't beat it. See I'm really an island girl at heart". She currently teaches private and group voice lessons at a music school and is frequently called upon by local recording studios to work with established, and up and coming artists. While songwriting for other budding talents, Selena Serrano has had the opportunity to sing background and reference vocals for nationally and internationally known recording artists such as Pitbull, Scarface, Duece Poppi and Guru of Gangstarr, making a small name for herself around town. "It is time to focus on my own music now; create my sound". And many believe that it is due time. She is currently working closely with popular Miami based producers, The Diaz Brothers( of Pitbull production), Jim Jonsin( Danity Kane "Showstopper"), and Inner Circle( Bad Boys theme song of cops) and REDD of Streetrock
