Born in the Caribbean 's hidden treasure of Dominica , Ubald Scotland A.K.A. Wicked YB's talent was definitely not hidden. From the age of 9, Ubald was the youngest dancer to ever win the Belle Cup in Dominica . After which he was picked up by a dance team when he moved to St Croix . He toured the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico even before he became a teenager. Ubald has also performed with various Bay Area dance groups such as the Orinoco Dancers, Cultural Ensemble, and Fogo na Ropa just to name a few. Being blessed with the ability to dance like no other Ubald's parents realized he had another gift that far surpassed the mind blowing movements of his feet: his voice.
Ubald grew up in the islands listening to the founding fathers of Caribbean music such as the Calypso King of the world the Mighty Sparrow, and to Reggae music which he listed Gregory Isaacs, Steel Pulse, and Bob Marley as his 3 most influential artists. Ubald was fortunate to experience the era when there was a transformation in the music. Ubald saw the evolution of Calypso to the upbeat version called Soca and the change from Reggae to Dancehall. Just as Americans experienced the evolution of Disco to Hip Hop, and you see the likes of Eminem spitting freestyles in 8 Mile, Reggae Dancehall was actually the originator of this concept of the sound clash.
In the US Virgin Islands, Ubald became one of the wickedest Reggae Dancehall freestyler to touch the mike. That's how he became Wicked YB. The Wicked is self explanatory when you experience him torching the mike and spitting machine gun lyrics that cause the entire club to explode like a fire bomb has just hit. When Ubald hit the US , he was challenged by his local inter island counterparts. Ubald has won just about every Sound Clash he has entered living up to his name as being wicked.
Wicked YB's performance career outside the arena of freestyle and sound clashes is something to be admired as well. He has opened up for the likes of Maxi Priest, Shaggy, Sean Paul, Elephant Man, Sizzla, Mr. Vegas, Shine Head, Shabba Ranks and other well known artist just to name a few. Ubald was even asked to open up for Carlos Santana when the latter received an award from Mayor Willie Brown in San Francisco . Wicked YB has also been performing at the San Francisco Carnival for the last 14 years, and has been the major act at a few state fairs and Caribbean festivals Northern California .
Wicked YB has also developed a new form of Reggae Dancehall which is taking the airwaves by storm; he has developed the fusion of Samba and Reggae called Samba Dancehall, which has become the standard at every major Brazilian event in Northern California .
Wicked YB resides in the Bay area where he continues to entertain his audience with his captivating lyrics and voice.
