| Frankie Paul |
Born in 1965 in Jamaica, Frankie Paul is the son of a singer. He was born blind, and although a hospital shop gave him partial vision as a youth, it was only recently that a New York eye specialist gave him extra strong glasses to slightly improve his vision. He attended the Salvation Army School for the blind and while he was there, the school was visited by Stevie Wonder, who after singing on stage with Frankie, gave him a lot of encouragement.
In 1983 Frankie Paul recorded some material for Channel One, which resulted in two 'Showdown' LPs, the first with Sugar Minott (containing 'Worries In The Dance') and the second with Little John. He sang the backing vocals on both albums himself! He also plays most instruments, having learnt the piano at school, and having taught himself guitar and drums.
Frankie Paul is often referred to
as Mr. F.P., or the "Jamaican Stevie Wonder." In my opinion
Frankie Paul is one of the greatest singers on the planet. His commanding
voice will give you goose bumps with such tracks as "Children
of Israel" and "If You." Frankie is a true
veteran and you will hear him on both our Dancehall and Root stations.
Frankie knows all about hard work and puts out at least one album a year.
If your city is blessed enough to have him visit, don't miss him for anything!.
Bigupradio highly recommends the albums: 20 Massive Hits CD
and The Early Days of Frankie Paul LP.
