CD Review: Norrisman - Heat Is On
Jun 30, 2008

Norrisman's latest album titled "Heat is On" showcases this artist's variable talents on the mic, along with intelligent, thought provoking lyrics, and some nice melodies.  This album released on the Home and Away label, and recorded at Anchor, Vertex, Flabba, and Ice Burg studios in Kingston Jamaica. This rising star continues to put out solid, quality works, which demonstrate a true groundation in the principles of Rastafari.

Born Christopher Campbell, and raised in Trenchtown and Arnett Garden in Kingston. Norrisman started his musical career early, around age ten, singing and toasting on the mic at local dancehalls. This gave him the motivation to start his musical journey, which by age twenty two he was recording his first tracks for Leggo, Celestial Sounds, and Black Scorpio in Kingston.

The first song, the album's title track, "Heat is On" has a softer sound, with some nice acoustic guitar yet the lyrics bun a hotta fyah while keeping it cool all di while" The second track "Remember You" is a tribute to a certain special empress. "I'll always remember you, your love is so pure and true" Love is lovely, yeah Mon!

"Nah Hold Back" the album's third track, give I and I some real inspiration to resist babylon's deception and stand up for truth and rights. In a time where the truth is distorted, and equal rights are really only ensured to those with monetary resources.

The track "This Morning" is another beautiful love song that carries a easy listening riddim, and some honest, sincere, and from the heart lyrics ‘`cause life is the greatest thing, to know that you are mine" The next track  "For You" is a battle anthem for all conscious sons and daughters of the most high to rally Jah troops and stomp out all wickedness.  "Kings and Queens of the Earth, to conquer the turf, no folly, no evil works."

Track 7, "Praise Jah", is another big tune that highlights Norrisman's talent in building a vibe and spreading his joy through his music.  A real motivational song with a message of devotion delivered to those that have ears to hear. "Lesson for dem to learn" Sings Norrisman. Praise H.I.M, so that your days may be longer.

"Just to See" is a song that pours feelings into music, that which then create a sound so nice and pleasant. "Searching but I know there's no other to find, a love like this is so true and divine" You better find love like this, or else your just wasting your time, right?

The instructions given by Norris Man on the song "Hold Your Own" are so vital in this here time. "Better to hold your own, and do things right" Be your own person, don't let the system change you, and control your mind in a negative way. That is the general message here.

"We are the Future" is a very positive song that communicates a needed call to rise up and cease the day. "I got to take care of my offspring" chants Norris. The youth hold the key to the changes needed to take place. So we should recognize the value and worth of youthful insight as we look to future times.

The last track "Warning" is a message for all bad boy, and gangsta to heed. "I you see taking things for granted everywhere you go" sings Norrisman as he closes the song. If you truly put Jah first then you could never commit a crime against your neighbor. Live upright, and know Selassie I!

As with all of Norrisman's works, "Heat is On" is a quality production that deserves recognition. Norrisman sings and chants from the heart. Coming from and era when lots of artists are loudly chanting fyah lyrics, Norrisman's cool, relaxed style is a welcome change. While anyone that has witnessed Norris on stage knows there is nothing relaxed about his performance, and it is his delivery style that is unique.
