When I think back to some of the earliest memories I have of hearing Reggae music for the first time, I feel a sense of naturality. An elemental component that has been here since creation. The concept of Niyabinghi is an ancient vibe that is the foundation of roots reggae. Many are called, and few are chosen. The Reggae Bubblers have captured the spiritual heights that anyone with an awareness of word, sound, power, is seeking.
Brothers Cheech, and Hayba, hail from the Island of St. Croix, and their "Yabapot" Studio has turned out many recordings for the Reggae Bubblers, and other talented singers, like Niyorah, XKaliba, Ikahba, and many more. Their music is heartical, and full of culture vibes, elevated in the teachings of the Most High, Jah Rastafari.
The Reggae Bubblers latest release Livin Up, contains sixteen tracks of authentic roots and culture music. This is music that has a distinctive sound, indigenous to the largest island of the Lesser Antilles, St. Croix. Hearing the sweet melodies along with a slow-rocking riddim, brings me back to the early reggae vibes I felt when I was just a youthman.
The first track "Rastafari", tells of the struggle that all Rasta's must endure when they oppose Babylon corruption and oppression. "Have no fear" Cheech assures the listener. "Wanted Children" the albums second track, follows up this sentiment. "Badness does not pay, all we need is to hope and pray." Truth and rights must prevail.
"Ethiopia", the third track, celebrates the land of creation, and ancestral homeland to many of Rastafari's children. " Inna Ethiopia where I an I would be, fighting for Jah, in Jah's Army" Yes I, spoken like a true rebel soldier. Another track that is a big, big tune on this album is "St. Croix to Shashamane" This song provides an image of hope to many African descendents, living far from their homeland. Marcus Garvey's visionary goal lives on through these musical works. Imagine the Black Star Liner, loaded full of passengers leaving the port at Frederiksted, U.S.V.I. "what a trip that would be!"
"Tug of War" tells the tale of how man fight against each other instead of helping their brothers and sisters. Dash way with your ego and selfishness, and learn to live in love. Yeah mon, live upright, seen? When you need a little extra motivation in life's daily struggles, listen to the track titled "Tough Get Going" for some higher inspiration. "Wisdom, knowledge and Overstanding is what we're seeking," the Reggae Bubblers sing.
The track "Good Time" is such a joyful tune. Listen closely to the lyrics, absorb the consciousness, and pass on that irie feeling to your family and friends. This song is a celebration of Ital livity to the fullest. A festive song that will have all lion and lioness dancing in tune with Jah. This track has an African reggae sound, different from all the other songs on Livin Up. Nice background vocals added by Positively Nelsons and Deana Jonak.
Track 15 "Natty" showcases the "bubbling" style that the Reggae Bubblers have perfected. In building the vibes up, and then reaching a level of higher consciousness that is the foundation of word, sound, power. Give Thanks and Praise to the King of Iration.
