CD Review: Midnite-Lustre Kings - Infinite Quality
Nov 16, 2007

"Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with string instruments and organs.
Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
Let every thing that hath breath praise the lord. Praise ye the Lord." Jah Rastafari."

-Psalm 150:3-6

If the works contained within "Infinite Quality" could be summed up in a couple of words, the album title given would be suitable and appropriate. While I am sure that name applies more to the livity of Rastafari consciousness. I am very impressed by the latest album from Midnite – Lustre Kings, and I believe this album is a shining example of roots reggae music at this moment in time.

All I can say is this is some of the best modern roots available today. Masterful works. It is evident that Vaughn Benjamin is on such a higher level when it comes to his timing and potent lyrical delivery.  Lustre King’s collaboration with Midnite has brought forth a new and very different sound on Infinite Quality. Andrew "Moon" Bain, alongside Corrin Haskell (Lustre Kings) co-produced this roots masterpiece, which has such a spiritual presence and hola vibe throughout.

The fourth track "Dem A Wondaa" features some excellent horn arrangements coupled with Vaughn’s poetic flow. "through the desert and a glacier a wondaa, through mountain and a valley dem a wondaa" , "dem a wondaa the earth."

Bain, also known as Digital Ancient has tapped into an "ancient" spiritual vibe with tracks like "Reela Law" with Wadi Gad on Drums. This track has some really nice strings which give a harmonic balance, ites.

When I first listened to track 10, "Grounds" I thought to myself this is one of the best Midnite songs my ears have been blessed to hear. Powerful. This song can stir some emotions within yuh soul, and strengthen your relationship with Jah. The triumphant horns herald in a holy connection with the Trinity.

"Lose Everything" with a thunderous bass provided by Kenyatta Itola, and Moon on flute,  real higher heights. This song’s message reminds the listener how important it is to carry yourself with humbleness about you.  Vaughn sings " leggo self, leggo ego, leggo everything fi know Jah"  Selassie I guidance intinualy.

Track 13 features Lutan Fyah. The song’s title "Stay with His Majesty" offers up a suggestion to look towards the divine teachings of Haile Selassie I for guidance in these treacherous times. Vaughn’s lyrics flow from his lips like a waterfall falling towards the earth, replenishing the environment. As Lutan sings in a most royal fashion, "Babylon construct this makeshift reality" Rastafari is the light. Nah follow dem heathens.

Many other tracks are worth listening to closely. The music throughout is thoughtfully assembled to correspond to the intelligent and moving lyrics contained within each song. I am confident in saying that this is an album you should go out and purchase. Share the vibes with those you care about and spread the joy that Midnite – Lustre Kings have created.

Haile Bless,
